Therapy Approaches

With children’s physiotherapy, there are so many options that it can be confusing to know what will work best for your child and how to balance it with family life. At COMO Therapy, we understand that every child and family has unique needs, and the right therapy plan can make a real difference in achieving lasting progress.

We offer three primary approaches, each designed to cater to different needs and schedules: Ongoing Therapy, Block Therapy, and our Therapy Hit Program

Ongoing Therapy

Ongoing therapy is a great choice for families seeking routine, consistency, and steady progress over time. With sessions once a week, this approach provides a predictable structure that supports gradual skill development. Weekly sessions help children build momentum, reinforce learning, and stay engaged with their therapy goals.

  • Best for: Families looking for continuous support and gradual progress . Ideal for children who thrive with routine and benefit from consistent therapy at a steady pace.

  • Benefits: Provides routine and steady progress, allowing skills to develop at a comfortable pace.

  • Alternative: Fortnightly or monthly sessions are possible but may require more support at home through a Home Exercise Program (HEP) to maintain progress.

Block Therapy

(Semi-Intensive)

Block therapy involves concentrated sessions, typically twice a week for 6-10 weeks. After completing the block, we recommend a 2-4 week break before starting another block. This approach allows for focused, semi-intensive input, helping children to make rapid progress in areas like strength, balance, motor planning or spatial awareness.

  • Best for: Families looking for flexible and focused approach. Ideal for children who need targeted work on specific skills or goals and benefit from shorter, more focused bursts of therapy.

  • Benefits:

    • Accelerated skill-building in specific areas.

    • Offers flexibility with breaks to allow children to take a breather and apply new skills in real-life situations.

    • Balances therapy with play and time to just be children.

Our Therapy Hit Program is an intensive burst of therapy designed to achieve rapid progress in a short timeframe. This approach typically includes 3-5 sessions per week over 2-5 weeks, condensing 6 – 25 weekly sessions into a few weeks. It’s a great option for children who need a significant boost in their skill development or have time-sensitive goals.

  • Best for: Families seeking rapid skill development or those with time-sensitive goals especially in areas like gross motor skills, coordination or other developmental milestones. A great option for school-aged children looking to build their skills over the school holidays.

  • Benefits:

    • Provides fast, targeted skill development.

    • Enhances gross motor skills, coordination and specific functional abilities.

    • Accelerates progress within a short timeframe.

  • Post-therapy: Upon completion, therapy can transition to a less frequent schedule (e.g. weekly sessions) to continue progress and reinforce learning. We recommend a minimum of 6 weeks before commencing another Therapy Hit Program to allow the child time to consolidate and apply their new skills.
